Taylor Tile Co., Los Angeles, CA 1934-1938
This is rare, 4-tile cuerda seca panel depicting an ox-drawn covered wagon dramatically silhouetted in black against a Southwestern landscape. The wagon’s white bonnet and the brilliant polychrome landscape of purple mountains and fiery red-orange and yellow sky in rich, vellum-finish glazes is an iconic example from this amazing Golden Era tile company. The panel is framed in a contemporary Monterey-style black wrought iron frame with a hand-hammered finish. The tiles are 8×8 ea and the panel is ready to hang.
