Josiah Wedgwood & Son, Staffordshire, England

We are presenting here a rare selection of eight antique (ca. 1878-1885) tiles from the remarkable Wedgwood series of ten tiles depicting characters from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.  The design of these 6″ blue, transfer-printed on dust-pressed earthenware tiles is attributed variously to Thomas Allen or Helen Miles. The set is referred to in Lockett’s important reference book “Collecting Victorian Tiles” (p. 139-140) as “one of the most sought after of all tile series.” Marked “Josiah/Wedgwood & Sons/Etruria.”   Contact us if interested in seeing more photos.   Sold as a set.
