Made in Portugal, Circa late 1700-early 1800’s
After the 1755 earthquake that devastated a large part of Lisboa, tile production was in full swing. These tiles were made in Portugal to help with the reconstruction during the mid to late 1700’s and on. There is a repeating floral pattern in satiny off white, purple-brown, blue and yellow. Notice the shading on the petals, designed to show the direction from which the lighting comes from-it is important to set the tiles so the shading is uniform. The tiles have an aged patina appropriate to their antiquity.
