Nicolas de Jesus, Mexico  1982-present

This is loosely translated as Hope. One immediately sees the juxtaposition the artist has portrayed on this sad, yet wonderful etching. A Mexican woman, with her baby slung on her back, is tending the young sprouts of her garden while a man hangs from a tree in the background. Vibrant colors help to accent the very detailed drawing on hand-made amate paper.  Artist signed. His signature is very obscure, but we have enough of his work to recognize his way of signing. 11 of 75 made, second edition.

The last photo shows this image on the cover of the magazine “Hojas de Amate” art and culture of Guerrero. December 2001.
