Rookwood Pottery, Cincinnati, OH  1880-1965

This award-winning tile and pottery maker began producing architectural tiles in 1902 and continued into the 1940’s.   This is an amazing example of one of their architectural relief tiles.    The matte glazing is thick and has a curdled-like appearance on the finely detailed, 3-dimensional surface.  Colors are dark brown, plum and teal.  A pair of peacocks appear to be drinking from a tall fountain.  The tile is thick and heavy and can be framed or used in an installation.
