U.S. Encaustic Tile Company, Indianapolis, IN  1877-1937

Fleur de Lis, twisted rope and a floral medallion all come together nicely on this very old ceramic tile.   Shades of brown have clay showing thru on the raised design where the glaze covering is thin.  Very lovely.  Can be seen in Norman Karlson’s Encyclopedia of American Art Tiles, Region 3, page 204.
