Malibu Potteries, Malibu, CA  1926-1932

A floral motif is pressed into the red clay and glazed with five matte colors.   According to Norman Karlson’s research, Malibu Potteries was established to supply tiles for the “American Riviera”, a real estate development built in the hills of Malibu overlooking the ocean.   Rufus Keeler, formerly of CALCO, managed the pottery and was the influence behind the great Malibu designs and glazes.
