Glen Lukens, Los Angeles, CA 1887-1967
An award-winning ceramicist and teacher, Glen Lukens (1887-1967) helped change the way we see and interpret ceramics today. At a time when American pottery production was dominated by design and decoration, Lukens forged new rough clay designs and discovered new glazes and glaze techniques. His work married bright colors to raw surfaces and pioneered a new approach to the ceramic vessel. Glenn Lukens was born in Missouri and later moved to Los Angeles to live and work in 1925. This is one of his heavy stoneware bowls with a course, textured exterior. Smooth interior and top have pale pink crackly glazing.
