Malibu Potteries, Malibu, CA  1926-1932

Terra cotta insert tiles were placed in installations between larger field tiles to create a pattern.   Geometric shapes were recessed into the clay and glazed.   Here is a fine example of a Malibu insert tile with glossy cobalt.  What’s special about this tile is the glossy surface on the terra cotta.   Usually only the colored glaze is glossy.
