Howard Whalen, Sierra Madre, CA 1913-?
Howard Whalen (now deceased) was a local Sierra Madre artist and sulptor. His work exhibited internationally, and he is mostly known for his sculptures. This is one of his mid-century, hand-made tiles. There are trowel marks covering the surface of the thick, red clay and black satiny glaze was applied creating a square in the center.
