Pewabic Tile Assortment
Pewabic Pottery, Detroit, MI 1903-present
This is a dazzling collection of assorted early Pewabic tiles. The most influential legacy of founder Mary Chase Perry Stratton was, inarguably, the groundbreaking iridescent glazes which caused a sensation in the world of American art pottery. An array of matte and bright iridescent glazes in rich, aqueous greens, blues and earth tones embellish the incised, Celtic-inspired spirals, swirls, whorls and linear motifs that decorate this choice group. Various costly materials were used to produce Pewabic's trademark iridescence, including silver, zinc and copper oxides and sulfides. The glazes were applied either singularly or in sumptuous blends, examples of which abound in this exciting selection. If any of these little 'gems' are of interest to you, contact us for more photos and information. Sold separately.
